Week 6 Wrap Up

Week 6 Started off with a BANG!

In Game 1, a game that had Championship feel, that bang was delivered by the HUSKIES, knocking the TIGERS down early, leaving them down 22 points, and 2 men down to double tech's and fouling out. Some hustle on the boards, and downtown shooting from JJ, Justin Jones led the HUSKIES early. Midway through the first half looked like a bad night to come, as Weyling "yes, he did that" White accounted for all of the TIGERS 4 points. After the TIGERS "accidentally" knocked out the HUSKIES' big man, they began to show us the TIGERS team that are favored to compete for the championship, as Andy "The German Nightmare" Laible started to make his presence felt, playing the inside out game with WW, as they combined for 31 points. Reico "pull it from anywhere" Miller tried to stop the comeback, but it was not enough to hold off the TIGERS, who got great supporting play from David Norman, and Jeremy "the other JJ" Johnson. In the end, the TIGERS completed the comeback as WW sealed it on the line. TIGERS by 7.

Game 2 dealt us another bang as the underdog EAGLES looked to pull of an upset against the 2 weeks in a row sub less HEELS. Some well balanced scoring for the EAGLES made the difference as 6 of their 8 players put up numbers, led by Ealey "Mad Man" Mungo (22 pts) from the perimeter, and Robert "Big Man" Dalley (12 pts), who was able to take advantage of the HEELS not having anybody over 5'6". (That's a joke Byron and Chris). Chris "Boards" East was a beast down low for the HEELS dropping in layup after layup, (20 pts in all), keeping the HEELS close. In a second half dominated by....FOULS, Shae "lightning bolt" Richmond did all he could to push the HEELS over the top, but in the end, some great coaching from the bench reminding his team NOT TO FOUL helped the EAGLES seal the deal. EAGLES by 4.

Game 3 gave us battles on and off the court, as a close, low scoring first half was dominated by defense, and more technical fouls. All 8 of the BUCKEYES players registered a basket, as Mike "who really wants to be a Bobcat (did you see his shorts?)" Glazier looked to be the only one who wanted to score. Maybe he was just keeping the ball to himself. The feuding WILDCATS went toe to toe with the mighty BUX, and carried a one point lead into the half as Tyler "MVP" Bathrick and Wes "Kobe" Ledbetter led the scoring for the CATS in the first half. After the WILDCATS coach T-Wylie found out that Northwestern was tied with South Pointe at halftime, he was able to relax, regroup his team, and get them focused on playing ball. In what continued to be a low scoring game, the BUCKEYES shifted their offense to their big men, (Darrell and Brad), who combined for 15 (19 on the night). The WILDCATS went with the running option taking either the fast break lay up or the kickout 3. Rob "The Crippler" Crippen and "Lay-ups" Templeton (who shot a 3 for once) led the way for the CATS in the 2nd half, as they outscored the BUX by 9 in the second half. CATS by 10 in the end.

The Matinee match gave us the battle for the heavily coveted 7th place in the league. The BULLS looked to spread their scoring around getting some easy baskets from Russ "Rusty" Berard, as well as their usual scoring duo of Joe and Jonathon. The BOBCATS actually took a lead into half time (only by 2) as their big men, Robert "RC" Cook and Chandler "C-Mac" McArthur took advantage of the BULLS not having their big guy. Even number 2 (I won't mention his name) dropped in a basket for the BOBCATS in the first half. In the second half, Dusty "D-Money" Thompson came alive for the B-Cats, keeping them close with the BULLS, who took the lead on a "sneaky" 3 by Justin "handles" Huddleston. After the BULLS took the lead, they looked to run time off the clock, using up their fouls, and forcing the BOBCATS into one final out of bounds play with only seconds remaining. Could it be? Another Laitner buzzer beater to crown the 7th place after week 6 champs? RC made the move of a lifetime (actually it was just an average move) down low to spin and get a layup off, but a missed no call (YES-I am defending my team on this one) left the BOBCATS with no basket, no win, no 7th place title, and again, no marks in the W column.
